With the recently strong opening bowling partnership of Ash ‘Diego’ Wells and Tim ‘banter’ Willis skipper Buddle Jnr hoped to get off to a good start. This however was not to be the case with some sloppy bowling and some care free batting Bretton were looking to take the game away at 100-0 off 13 overs.
Cue a decisive change from the young skipper, as Jordan ‘Joe Root’ Cafferkey and Malinda Fernando were brought on either end after an unsuccessful introduction of Elliot Smith. Jordan finished with 3-9 off 11 and Malinda 5-39 off 11.5. In addition to this there was a smart run out by Harry Buddle after some persistent boundary chasing from the debutant Fernando and a catch to top off a dream debut for Malinda.
With Bretton miraculously pegged back to 145 all out, Ramsey looked to have firmly put themselves back in the game and there was no let off with the bat either as the opening duo of Elliot Smith and Jordan Cafferkey accelerated away to get respective scored of 50 and 88 not out. Craig Golightly was the only other batsmen required and, helped by Jordan, managed to see the rest of the chase through in only 22.5 overs.
It was another good day for the 3rds who will face tougher challenges ahead with players becoming illegitimate due to number of games played up. However with a few people returning from university and some hidden gems to be found as with Malinda the 3’s can look to press on from their fantastic start.
