The Ramsey U15’s ended up coming out as comfortable winners against Warboys U15’s to win their opening league game of the season.
On a cold and blustery evening, Warboys batted first and posted a solid 102-4 off their 20 overs, with Ollie Jenkins their stand-out performer batting through the full innings to make a very good 50*. He was aided by J. Pearson (12) and A. Daniel (15) both chipping in to set, what seemed to be defendable, 102 for 4. After the run-out in the third over of G. Longford (4), Ramsey’s Mark Saunders bowled well with 2-14 off his 4 overs and Tom Hodgson picking up the last wicket in figures of 1-2 off 2 overs.
In reply, things didn’t begin well for Ramsey after McKenzie O’Donoghue was bowled in the first over by J. Pearson. However, from then on both Alex Broughton and Jace Anderson took full advantage of lacklustre bowling from their opponents. The pair looked comfortable throughout and cashed in on plenty of loose or short balls, dispatching most to the boundary in good style, including a spell of 47 runs in just 3 overs. With the help of 33 extras, Ramsey reached 104-1 off just 13.1 overs; Alex Broughton finished on a good 21* and Jace Anderson reaching 50* by hitting an excellent six over deep-mid wicket to end the game and maintain an unbeaten 102 partnership.
The whole team can be pleased with their performance, with a decent fielding and bowling efforts despite tough conditions to play in. No-doubt however that the stand out area was batting and there’s promise for the fixtures to come.
