2nds through to SBJ Final

5/7/2013

Match Report by John Wells
Smith Barry Semi in the Sun.

Two late call-ups for PJ Malem & Alex Broughton [u15S] as selection adheres to the rules an ‘extra carefully’ selected 11 sadly leaves Jordi-JC (jnr) on the side-lines.

Vinny wins the toss and elects to bat.

The wicket plays merry hell as both Tommy [Burnsie] is trapped LBW and Smiffy are bowled by misbehaving length deliveries. Tom got a ‘nip-backer’ and Elliot an unplayable ‘low castler’. Hasty padding up, sees Vinny gets both Wells’ ready.

Slicker our SB Final specialist plays back and bottom edges his second delivery to second slip. Looking out of sorts, the writing is on the wall as he goes back and is cleaned up

Manny strides on only to be sent back as Wells ‘blocker’ Snr is sent in - to stop and or repair some damage with Steve ‘biffer’ Buddle.  From 27-3 these 2 senior Pro’s build a steady partnership, aided by some beefy blows by Steve, with a blistering few 4’s and a six over straight deep mid-off.

Wellsy purrs along and Steve races to 50*.  At 101-3 we are right back in it till Freddy Khan does for Wellsy Snr; [23] with a back of the hand top spinner. Stevie follows him back to the pavo after a deep blow gets held up in the wind at deep extra and Bub’ is ct for 57. In steps Man-child and Ash ‘Big-Bird’ Wells. With Manny picking up some classy leg side singles, twos, 3’s fours and nowt on the off side…lol.  But a great knock by Manny [43] in good pace aswell, helps recover the early loss of Ash’ lbw.

In come Chenzo and Charlie Saunders  - the ‘if it’s in my arc its going twins’ race some brisk boundaries.  RCC latest and newest inexperienced nappy changer and The Glassmoor Bank V hitter  rip into Huntingdon’s varied attack.

At 50 overs then a very very respectable 255-8 see a happy team Rams-at tea. Vinny a tremdous 61-red inker and Charlie’s [31] with Alex [2*] the Rams tail wags big.

Huntingdon 2nd XI – Innings.  Ash opens up with Manny. Manny bowling up the hill is blowing hard and blowing harder when at the other end in 2nd slip for Ash-chunder!

Ash’ is coming in off his long run, from somewhere near Carpet Right with some real pace and it was only a matter of time till someone got hit and the senior opener get struck badly on the head.  20-25 mins of blood, sweat and sawdust is not what crickets about but surely; sense dictates on a dodgy strip facing pace you must wear a ‘lid’  the ambulance arrives and thankfully the lads ok and recovering with ice, and cold compress or three.

Steady wickets from Ash and Tom, and triple blinding - ‘specky’ catches from The Wells’s get Vinny a wicket off some rank tripe! Manny shells-one off Ash after a splendid Catch at 1st slip for Vice-Skip Slicker off Ash.

Tommy the leggy replaces Ash after his line strays once too often for Vinny’s liking.  Toms’ leggies are so-so unlucky he gets one difficult catch chance - shelled by Bud up-close. 2 front foot no balls, are called as both take wickets but both ineligible! One at slip ct by Slicker deemed front foot foul. The other sees Ash’ -diving clutching a full length grab’ in the deep in front of a bewildered ‘real support’.  The RCC following; who missed the signal for a no-ball ‘free-Hit’! Real shame but work needed Burnsie and his pet Brazilian.

PJ missed a day to remember with an almost run out; by 6 inches or was it 4” or maybe 2” as the gap from ball to stump is shaved down, by PJ. He’s quick to reminds us at the break of over. Fair dos, it was a sharp return from the youth.

As  Ash clean bowls Freddie for 135-a.o. The Rams in the Final v Goddy or Yeading or Ickwell?

Vinny with a five-for 35, and 60+* is M.OM.

Manny 0-22, Ash 2-22 and Tommy 2-51 the bowling stats.

A stumping by Stevie and a catch from Charlie off Tommy - round off the book.  Bring on the FINAL
