At last we arrived at Cricketfield Lane and it was proper cricket weather a lovely English summers day ideal for batting.
Taylor West won the toss and looking at the weather and relative strengths of the teams had no hesitation in electing to bat to go for the bonus points win. The Cafferkey brothers Michael and Simon once again got the innings off to a fast start and by the time Michael was out in the 10th ov the score was already on 41. Simon was joined by Taylor West and they then started to tuck into the St Ives bowling with relish. Simon in particular playing with authority all around the wicket and by the time he was out for 84 off 81 balls the pair had put on 106. Taylor then took over and was equally aggressive scoring 89 off 86 balls by the time he was out the score was on 202 and it left Luke Stewart 31* and Jimmy Markland 14* to add the finishing touches the innings finally being declared after 40 overs on 238.
238 on the board was always going to be difficult for a weakened St Ives team to defend and so it proved. Opening he batting was 14 year old Tom McArthy can there ever have been a younger opening batsmen in Tucker 1 I wonder?
Last week saw David Carlaw take 7 wickets this week it was the turn of Michael Kay who proceeded to take the first 5 St Ives wickets and after the introduction of Sam Rippington, (6 ov 4 for 15) in the 14th over the young left armer taking the next 4, it only remain for Michael to finish the innings ending with 12.4ov 6 for 46.
This was an excellent performance all around and with Wisbech losing at March the Rams are now top exactly half way through the season.
